The Great Giza Pyramid was built as a tomb for pharaoh Khufu of Egypt. Construction took about 20 years, and has three burial chambers inside. It wasapproximately 147 meters tall when it was first built (in around 2550 BC).To day it is just around 139 meters tall due to erosion. If you wanted to enter the King’s chamber you’dhave to walk down, bent over all theway. Once upon a time Giza’s Great Pyramid had a swivel door at its entrance. It weighed around 20 tons, and could be easily pushed from the inside open. It was very difficult to find on the outside, because it matched perfectly. Only two other pyramids are known to have swiveling doors. One was the pyramid of Khufu ‘s father, and the other was a pyramid of his grandfather
The mortar used to build the pyramid is not reproducible today. And if it’s been studied they somehow can’t do it. It is stronger than the stone used to build the pyramid, and is still in operation today. No writing or hieroglyphics have been found within the Great Giza PyramidThis pyramid is the only one with concave sides to have been built. This means all four sides slightly curve in.
It would not be possible to build an exact copy of this pyramid if we wantedto. We don’t have the exact technology that was required by the ancient Egyptians to construct this pyramid.
Within, there were three burial chambers. One of the chambers was built underground into the bedrock. Lower was the queen’s chamber, and lowestwas the king’s chamber. Khufu did not wish to let either of his wives use thequeen’s chamber. It’s assumed he wanted to use it for his own statue
